The pine-shrouded alpine lake more than deserves its title of being the Jewel of the Sierras. Lake Tahoe is often dubbed as the perfect year-round vacation and wedding destination. Lake Tahoe lies 6,225 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada range, split between California and Nevada. The magnificent shoreline is 71 miles, with the California shoreline being 42 miles and the Nevada shoreline being 29 miles. From mid-autumn to late spring, winter-sports enthusiasts are attracted to Tahoe's downhill resorts and cross-country centers. Surrounded by mountains, the present day lake sits in a valley, and is the highest lake of its size in the United States, the third deepest lake in North America and the tenth deepest lake in the planet. This breathtaking blue lake is so clear that in some areas objects can be seen to depths of 75 feet! The lake s beauty also lies in its play of colors.
